Yazoo Beer at Tribe!

First off I would like to say that until I met Courtney, I had never been to a gay club in my life and now... I LOVE IT! It's perfect. Tribe is a gay bar in Nashville and it's amazing. It's not overly packed, the drinks are delicious, the music is amazing, and you never have to worry about a guy hitting on you or trying to rub on you if you are a single straight lady. Not to mention that they hosted Yazoo Beer Night!

Yazoo Beer Night was only $5 to get in and it was unlimited tastes of 8 different beers brewed by Nashville's own Yazoo. Not only were they delicious, but ONLY $5!!! Included in the $5 admission was access to the free snacks that were provided by Suzy Wong's House of Yum, and boy were they YUMMY! Speaking of snacks, Adam came with us and loved it! If you know Adam, then you know how much he loves snacks! It was Adam's first time to Tribe and he was a little nervous I think at first, but once we got there he really liked it too. He likes the fact that you don't get all the losers you can run into downtown, and by losers I mean tourists with an attitude problem or boys who feel like they need to compensate for something.

All in all it was a great night with great friends! I hope to do it again soon!

Adam turns 30!

So a couple of weeks ago Adam, my husband, turned 30! He was a little nervous about it for awhile but now that it's here and gone he's completely cool rocking the fact that he is no longer in his twenties! I mean he's got a smoking hot young wife, what else could he want!?..... just kidding! So, to celebrate we went to Florida! My parents have this awesome time share deal where we end up getting great deals on our vacations as well, so we decided to take advantage and take a short little trip to the Sunshine State. Since we booked a two bedroom condo we thought it would be nice to share our trip with another couple so we took our good friends Jason and Kristy. We had a blast! Yes, the drive was long, and yes, I got car sick part of the way, but it was all worth it!

The first day there we decided to just relax and check out one of the many outlet malls and go to eat at Adam and I's favorite pizza place, Uno's, which we sadly do not have in Nashville. It was just as good as I remember if not better. If you have ever had the chance to eat here you know exactly what I'm talking about! Their pizza's have the best crust ever. They also have our favorite dessert which is a chocolate chip cookie baked into a personal pizza pan and served with copious amounts of vanilla bean ice cream, whip cream and chocolate sauce! YUM!

Once we got back to the hotel we decided that we and our food babies wanted to relax in the hot tub! Since we had hit Wal-Mart up earlier I already had my wine cooling in the fridge! The perfect ending to our day!

The next day was Adam's birthday so we were bound to do something fun and we all decided to head to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. Adam was the only one who had been there before and we were all so excited to explore it together!

We started with Islands of Adventure which was smart because they had a lot more rides! The Hulk was our first ride and probably my favorite! With its twists and turns it had my heart pumping and I was laughing because I looked over at Kristy who never even opened her eyes!

Next we hit up the Spiderman ride! SO MUCH FUN! I am not usually a fan of 3D rides but this took it to a whole other level. I was dodging bricks and enemies. It was like they were reaching out to grab me, it was so fun!!! Just walking around the park was fun! Just seeing all the little details in every different area of the park was cool. My favorite even though there was only a water ride was the Jurassic Park area! It was cool to hear all the noises and to feel like you were in the jungle!

After Jurassic Park we headed to the NEW HARRY POTTER WORLD! Now, Adam and I have never read the books or seen the movies so we didn't really think we would be that into it, but it was so so cool!!! It was so detailed! I've seen the movie trailers and it looked just like it! I was actually inspired to read the books! I can't wait to start!

After we had seen all of Islands of Adventure we headed over to Universal! It was so neat! It felt like we were on a movie set! We even got to see the Back to the Future car!!!

At Universal we got to ride the new Simpson's ride and the E.T. ride. Adam and I also hit up The Mummy which was amazing! Another 3D ride that blew me away! I hope we definitely make another trip back soon! So much fun! After a day of walking around it was time to go back to hotel so Adam could watch The Vikings game and the rest of us could rest our feet in the hot tub! I slept so good that night!

The next day was our last:( We decided to just take a day and relax. Kristy and I even got to schedule hour massages in our room which felt amazing! We got to hang out around the pool and even have races down the dueling water slides. We decided to take some paddle boats out on the lake as well!

That night we wanted to check out Benihana the Japanese Steak House right down the road. It was so delicious! Nothing like some fresh Japanese food and some late night hot tub action to make our ending to our vacation perfect!

What are some of your favorite vacation spots?!

Slip Slidin' Away!

Think slip n slides are just for kids?..... Think again my friends its for a group of young adults who have had enough liquid courage to throw on a bathing suit and throw themselves down a slippery slope! Which is so fun... until you wake up the next morning and you realize that your entire body hurts and you may have a bruised rib!
For Labor Day a group of us decided to have a big cookout and do a slip n slide. In my back yard we have a little hill that worked just perfect. A week before the event I was looking up how to make a slip n slide which sounds silly because you would think that its really easy. Which it is but there were some tips like, don't use tent stakes, that came in very handy. There were also so tips on what to use besides water to make in slippery, which I chose Blueberry scented kids Bubble Bath! It worked great!

This day was full of laughs, food, drinks and friends and you just can't ask for much more!

Even Abby had fun!

New Recipes!

Hello... do you guys remember me!? I realize I have been absent for over a month now and I have no excuses except complete laziness. However, I have been doing some fun things, have been going to new places and cooking new things and enjoying free concerts, so I have plenty to tell you about!

So, I love to go out to eat but as much as I love to do that I love to cook too! Sometimes its so hard to find time and the motivation with Adam and I's crazy schedule, because honestly who likes to cook for just themselves. However in the last month I have had some time to try some new recipes. The first one I tried was a Grilled Chicken with a toasted almond and mandarin orange relish with a side of quinoa pilaf! It was not only delicious but super healthy and easy to make! I don't need to tell you how to grill chicken so I'm going to leave that part of the recipe out, so I will start with the toasted almond and mandarin orange relish. All you have to do is buy a pack of sliced almonds and put them on a baking sheet and turn the oven to 350. Put them in for about 10 min and the almonds are done. Now chop up some green onion. Mix the almonds, mandarin orange slices with very little juice, and the green onions and you are finished. It should be 2 parts mandarin orange to 1 part almonds and just add green onions to taste. Now put in a little bowl and keep refrigerated. On to the quinoa pilaf. Do you know what quinoa is? Its a whole grain full of protein and fiber and has the taste of a mix between rice and pasta. Its super easy to make and is so good and good for you! However much you want to make just use two parts water to one part quinoa. I usually use 1 cup quinoa for Adam and I and always have a some left over. I start by placing one cup quinoa into a pot and add two cups of water. I bring to a boil and add a bouillon cube for taste. If you don't have a bouillon cube you can substitute chicken stock for some of the water. Once the water is at a bowl lower the heat and put a lid on your pot. Let simmer for about 15-20 min stirring occasionally. Once the quinoa is done you can eat it just like that or you can add ingredients like green onion, sauteed chopped yellow onion, or carrots. It's up to you and what you like! Here are the results!

Talk about delicious!

The next thing I attempted was inspired by the show The Biggest Loser. Bob and Jillian are always talking about substitutions you can make with the things you eat that are better choices. Last season they made mashed cauliflower instead of mash potatoes. Now, if you don't like cauliflower you are not going to like this dish. However, if you do you will love it! I find it delicious and it is so much lighter than mashed potatoes. Anyway, all you have to do is steam the cauliflower (I usually use a whole head ), then beat the cauliflower like you would if you were making mashed potatoes. You can stop hear and add salt and butter to taste, but for me I need to make them a little more creamy. On top of beating them I use an actually potato masher and mash them up by hand.

Then I tend to add about a tsp of butter and a little salt and you are good to go! Eat and enjoy! The first time I made this, this was all that was left!

The last recipe that I have tried was my favorite of all it was, Grilled Eggplant and Tomato Stacks. Here it is!

Ingredients

U.S.MetricConversion chart
  • 2 teaspoon(s) extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon(s) extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 (3/4-1 pound) medium eggplant, cut into 6 rounds about 1/2 inch thick
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) coarse salt, divided
  • 6 teaspoon(s) prepared pesto
  • 2 large beefsteak tomatoes, each cut into 3 slices about 3/4 inch thick
  • 4 ounce(s) fresh mozzarella, cut into 6 thin slices
  • 6 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 tablespoon(s) balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon(s) freshly ground pepper

Directions

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high or place a grill pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  2. Use 2 teaspoons oil to brush both sides of eggplant slices; sprinkle with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Grill the eggplant slices for 5 minutes. Turn; continue grilling until tender and marked with grill lines, 3 to 5 minutes more. Transfer to a large platter.
  3. Spread each eggplant slice with 1 teaspoon pesto. Top with a slice of tomato, a slice of mozzarella, and a basil leaf.
  4. Drizzle vinegar and the remaining 1 tablespoon oil over the towers; sprinkle with the remaining 1/4 teaspoon salt and pepper.

One of the best things I have ever eaten! So light and fresh! Only 145 calories and I paired it again with some quinoa! Tell me about some of your favorite recipes!

Monday Night Dance Party!!!

Every Monday night at the 5 Spot in East Nashville, there is a little something called the Monday Night Dance Party!!

Keep On Movin'

If you know me at all you know that I love to dance! I don't even need music I could just dance the night or day away and be completely content. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about this dance party! It's awesome! I've been meaning to go a lot sooner but since I always seem to work Tuesday morning and the dance party doesn't even really get started until around 11, you can imagine what kind of morning that would make the next day! Last Monday we finally went and it was pretty fun. However, if you want to drink you should do so before you get there because it's so crowded that you won't be able to get a drink unless you stand by the bar for 30 mins or more. Also, if you want to dance you shouldn't be to concerned about your personal space because your bubble would def. be popped on this dance floor but still a good time if you don't mind those things. It just so happens that when I was there I kept bumping into this girl when we were dancing and when I finally turned around to see this girl it was the pop artist, Kesha! I was butt bumping Kesha! It was crazy! Pretty cool though. I will def. go again! Hopefully soon because I could use some dancing! If you know of any good places to dance in town let me know and I will for sure check them out!!!

Check out 5 Spot!!!

Fun in the rain!!!

My friends and I had been planning a white water rafting trip for a couple weeks and when the day came last Monday we were stoked!!!! We got up early and packed the car, which you couldn't fit anything else into, and were on our way by 930. We had yet to look up directions but who needs too when three of the people in the car have the Iphone. So we looked up directions real quick and took off. Blasting awesome music, laughing and talking took up the next hour when I decided to ask Adam what our next move was on the directions. This is when our day started to take a turn for the worse. We had been going an hour in the wrong direction....LAME!!! I was a little, okay maybe more than a little peeved at my husband who never manages to fail at messing up directions, but when we realized we were still going to make our apt. for rafting at 2 o'clock I began to let go of it a little. When I get mad I tend to just not talk and let my thoughts steam for awhile, but I let my annoyance sizzle and was starting to be okay once we were about an hour from getting to our destination. We started jamming out to Michael Jackson once again! Everything was falling into to place. This was until we looked at our phones and realized there was an hour time change!!!! We were going to be late by thirty minutes!!!! I started to steam up once again! I think I was a little more annoyed because Adam and I were the ones who had paid for the whole trip and no one had paid us back yet and how was I suppose to ask for money for a trip that never happened! Not cool. Even though we missed our rafting trip, which we ended up getting vouchers for that we can use this year or next, we decided to set up camp! We had planned a tubing down the river trip as well the next day. So we set up camp close to the river and set out for the lake to go swimming. It started raining right when we got there but we were determined to not let it stopped us. So we jumped in and swam around for about an hour! Next it was on to the grocery store. It took us one hour to find a grocery store that was five minutes away!! Lets just say it was an interesting drive, filled with stories from Michael Ian Black's book. Once we finally got groceries we set out for the campsite once again and started grilling as soon as we got there. Then came our drunken night of catch phrase... ( I downed two bottles of wine!!!!). I don't remember much of the rest of the night other than getting sick and passing out once again in the tent... I know I'm so classy. The next day we got up and Jordan Mcgyver'd some awesome bacon, egg and cheese muffins and then came the rain. Maybe I should say torrential downpour! It didn't let up. When we decided it wasn't going to stop we decided to throw on our swim suits and start taking everything down. It was an experience that's for sure. The trip turned out to be pretty fun! Lots of laughing, lots of drinking and lots of rain! Who doesn't love doing things in the rain on a hot day?

My first 5K!!!!!

Today at 6 in the morning I'm felt a little regret from signing up for this 5K. All I want to do is throw my alarm across the room, roll over and go back to bed, but I can't! I paid money for this thing darn it and I'm going to do it. So I roll over and kiss Adam to wake him up and I can tell he is not feeling it either, but we both drag our butts out of bed and get ready. We are in the car ready to go 1/2 hour later and boy do we look the part. In our shorts, sports shirts and tennis shoes no one could tell by looking at us that we don't run...but we don't...EVER. Of course, I am a huge fan of the Biggest Loser (obviously I am practically in love with Jillian Michaels), and if 300-500 pound people can train in six months, or something like that, to run a full marathon at the end of the season then I should be able to run my butt 3.1 miles right!!!?? So, we meet up with our friends, David and Karen, who are runners, and we head for the marathon. When we get there I start getting a little nervous. There are so many people, athletic people... runners. They are all so inspiring in the their running gear and ipods. However, I just don't want to finish last. That is one of my biggest fears in life... finishing last at anything. I mean I guess that's probably everyone's fear, the fear of failure, but today I must put in my head that it doesn't matter if I come in last, it matters if I finish what I started and so that's what Adam and I set out to do!

Before the race....

Once the race starts, I'm focused. I'm pumped! It's exciting running with that many people. You feel like you are a part of something. Watching everyone else makes you want to keep going. Adam and I managed to run without stopping to walk for the first mile and a half and then we had to start walking every once in awhile. There were a lot more hills than I expected so Adam and I walked up the hills for the most part and would run down hills and on the flat areas. Near the end the only thing keeping us going was the fact that we were going to finish... and in the middle!

I was so exhausted by the end of the race but when I saw the finish line there was this sense of accomplishment that filled me. I was so happy. I will even say,I'm a little embarrassed, but I almost cried. It was even harder to keep my tears back when we almost get to the finish line and Adam looks at me and says, "Let's hold hands when we cross the finish line." This is such a sign of our relationship. A sign that we will always be by each others side. A sign that we will always be there for each other! A sign that I'm one lucky girl!

After the race....
This is an absolutely terrible picture, but what do you expect us to look like after a race? At least we are all smiles! Adam was making me laugh which is why I look so goofy. All in all I'm so glad that we chose to do this and we are actually super excited for another one in Oct!!!

If you have time, check out the Tomato Arts Festival today in East Nashville! I would have gone back and checked more stuff out if I didn't have to go to work tonight.

A special thanks to Karen for being our supporter and photographer! Hopefully next time you and baby tomato can run with us!!

My bad day that turned out ok!

So you know when you are super tired of your hair and you finally get that hair up your butt to change it. I did that right after the wedding a couple months ago. I was so tired of my long hair that I had been growing out for the wedding that I was super ready to cut it off when I got back from the honeymoon. I have always wanted to try a reverse bob look where its shorter in back then angles down toward the front! Like this..

Bob Hairstyles 2010-3
but without the bangs. When I got this cut two months ago I was in love with it! So cute and fun. So today I went back to get a trim and color and my stylist told me she would need to take about an inch off which was exactly what I needed. Anyway, we are just blabbing away about local bands and new restaurants in town, etc., when she spins me around so I can see myself in the mirror..... I'm a little shocked! She took like three inches off! SOO SHORT!!! Too short in my mind and when she asks me what I think, its takes everything I have to hold back my tears and tell her that I love it. I get up and walk outside and it starts pouring. Of course it would start pouring, my car is only parked about 1/4 mile away.. but wait I just bought a new umbrella!! I'm saved.... NOPE it's in my car that's 1/4 mile away. So I start running to my car in my, of course, white shirt and black skirt. It actually feels kinda nice. It's been so hot out these last couple of weeks that even though I know I'm going to have to redo my hair when I get home and change for the dinner plans I have in a half an hour, I enjoy the downpour for a moment. Right as I see my car around the corner I also see a giant puddle. As I go to leap over the puddle and look down to make sure I clear it I look up just in time to see a branch of leaves smack me right in the face. To make matters worse the car passing by honks to say, " Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for the laugh." As soon as I get in the car and take a deep breath and scream to the top of my lungs, relieving the stress from the haircut gone wrong, the rain, the tree branch and then I call my mom. I know I know I still call my mom when I feel sad or I'm having a bad day. There is nothing wrong with that. After talking to her I feel better. I got home and my friends were there waiting on me to leave for dinner and as I dry my hair and change we down a bottle of Sangria. The day may not be too bad after all. Also, my friends and Adam say the love my hair, don't know if they are being nice or really mean it but either way I feel better!

Karaoke Bars!!!

Last night a bunch of my friends and I decided to go out and have some drinks! We started at this bar called, " Sam's bar and grill," because they had two for one discount which none of us can ever seem to pass up and we were having so much fun! After about round 3 of two for ones (which is six beers if you can't add that up) we were all getting a little antsy for some new scenery and obviously weren't quite ready to go home. Callie had been talking about going to sing karaoke a little bit that night and I was totally down for that! I was ready to belt it out! So off we went to Printers Alley to a place called, " Ms. Kelli's Karaoke Bar." We were pretty much the only people there which made it even easier to get up the courage to sing. Not that we didn't have enough liquid courage in us anyway! My good friend Courtney and I have been talking about singing, " Summer Nights," from the Grease soundtrack, together for many weeks now and last night was the moment it turned into reality and honestly it was awesome! Take a look!

I know I know you are so jealous now you wish you had our talent!:) We continued on with Adam singing, "Little Red Corvette," Alyson singing, " I Love Rock and Roll" and " You Shook me All NIght Long." Callie sang, "Psycho Killer," and Sam sang as well but I can't remember for the life of me what song it was. Courtney and I got up and gave an encore of, " Baby love" as well...... its's a good thing we don't have that on video! Then I finished up the night with," Baby Got Back," and had Alyson and Callie as my back up dancers. Lets just say last night was definitely EPIC!

Going to the Dog Wash!

I firmly believe that as many adventures that you go on as possible should involve your furry friends if you have them! Adam and I have a two year old Sheltie, Abby. She is our baby and is so spoiled! I just heard about this place in East Nashville that sells Holistic Dog food and treats and has a self service dog wash! IT'S AWESOME!!! It's called Wags and Whiskers.

We usually take Abby to a groomer to get a bath and trimmed and easily spend $70 if not more. This place is only $15 for a bath and I get to do it for her which Abby loves. And with there waist high tubs, and plastic aprons is so much easier than giving her a bath at home.

Abby loved it! She was too cute!

I will definitely go back! You should go too! Check it out!

A Funny Kind of Night!

I know I know it's been a little too long since I've posted any new adventures and for that I do apologize. I have been a bit busy with work and trying to get my school stuff done for this fall and my parents came to town! Also, I'll be honest I was just being a little lazy!
Anyway, up until a week ago I had never seen a comedian live, which is a little strange since I watch comedians all the time on TV or Netflix with my husband! One of our favorite comedians is Michael Ian Black from hit shows like, " Stella, The State, Michael and Michael have Issues, Red Hot American Summer and I love the 80's!" If you haven't seen any or all of these I highly recommend that you stop what you are doing immediately and get to watching them! When my husband and I heard that he was coming to Zanies, a local comedy club, we had no hesitation in buying tickets and I am so glad we had this experience. I don't know if I have ever laughed that hard in my life. To see someone live that has been making you laugh through the TV screen for so long makes it even more hilarious. You pick up on their facial expressions and you have even heard a few of the jokes already, which are just as funny if not more than the first time you heard them. I love him even more now. After the show we waited in line to buy his book, which is hilarious, and got to have him sign in and take our picture with him.
He is really nice in person and as much as we planned what we were going to say to him, neither of us had the guts to actually do it. I guess we both were just starstruck!

Sign up to follow Michael Ian Black's Twitter account or follow him on facebook!

Ice Cream

It's so HOT out all the time now its ridiculous so lately I have been craving some icy cold treats! Normally I would just go to Dairy Queen or stop by the store and grab a pint of Ben n Jerry Cherry Garcia and be happy but since I am trying to be more adventurous I decided to try some new places and I'm so glad that I did!

I didn't realize that Nashville has a popsicle shop... that's all the sell is popsicles.... doesn't that sound awesome??!!! I thought so too! It's called Las Paletas and it is amazing! They have juice pops and creamy pops and unique flavors but they are all made with whole fruits and fresh ingredients. My friend Alyson is the one who showed me this awesome shop and now I'm a little obsessed. The first one I tried was a banana chocolate flavor and it was filled with actual chunks of bananas. Then when I took some friends there last week I got a peanut butter flavor! Both I would def. recommend to anyone. My friends got flavors like clementine, strawberry, cucumber spice and hot chocolate. All were great and so much better than any popsicles you would find in the freezer section at your local grocery.

Want to try one?? Check it out they are only $2.50! The most awesome popsicles you will find!!!

But wait... there is more! The Pied Piper Creamery located in East Nashville near 5 Points! My good friend Courtney and I have been on the adventure of trying new eateries and we planned a little lunch date last week and decided to get some ice cream at the Pied Piper. Neither of us had ever been there and it was scorching hot outside so you can imagine how awesome some cold creamy goodness sounded! The Pied Piper is located in an older charming house in East Nashville. When you walk in the aroma itself is almost enough to satisfy your craving for something sweet. Picking your flavor is the hardest with flavors such as "Strawberry fields forever, Robert Brulee, White Trash" and more! I picked "Nobody better lay a finger on my Butterfinger." I know it sounds lame but Butterfinger is my favorite candy bar and it had been way to long since I had one so when I saw that flavor I immediately went for it! It was delicious! Two scoops of that in a waffle cone should be able to cure cancer its so good! I can't wait to go back and try some more!

Rock Climbing at Climb Nashville!!!

So, when I went to summer camp in High School a couple of times we always had little excursions of ropes courses, zip lines, hikes etc. My favorite was always rock climbing! When you climb a rock wall its surprisingly harder than you think and its takes way more muscles than you thought you even had, but when you reach the top there is this amazing sense of success and accomplishment that takes your mind to another state. Plus, the most fun part of rock climbing is scaling down the wall! Well, the other day Adam and I thought we would try something new from our normal day off together and we decided to go check out Nashville Climb!

It was so much fun! And such a good workout! We loved it! We signed up for the Intro Course. Its only $33 which includes a two day pass which you can use the second day whenever you choose! It never expires. It also includes gear and a belay instruction course which only takes 20min and then you are free to climb any wall!

It was awesome!! I can't wait to go back and try it again!

Yoga

If you know me at all, you probably know that I'm OBSESSED with Jillian Michaels and her workout videos. I started with the "30 Day Shred" and then went on to buy her "No More Trouble Zones," and , "Banish Fat Boost Metabolism" videos. They are awesome! They are so challenging and even though by the end of them I find myself cursing the TV, I feel so accomplished afterwards. I originally was trying them to help lose weight for my wedding, but now that the wedding is done and gone I am still finding myself unhappy with my body. As a woman I'm not sure if this will ever change. For me working out only happens if I don't become bored! I have tons of friends who talk about doing yoga and how much they love it. In fact, I have a best friend who works at a yoga studio in LA and gets to meet celebrities all the time that take the classes. So jealous. However, for me I have always been afraid to try it. I have seen yoga done on TV and it has always just looked so complicated. I never understood how people get there bodies in some of those positions. I have wanted to take a class and try it out but I was always too embarrassed because I don't know the moves at all and how uncomfortable would that be to try to get used to the technique in front of a ton of strangers. Well, Jillian has saved me on this one! She now had a video called, " Yoga Meltdown" and its amazing!

Of course when I saw it advertised on Amazon in the , " you bought these things so you will probably like this" column I immediately put it my online shopping cart and bought it! I couldn't wait to get it in the mail! When it finally arrived I put on my workout clothes and popped it in the DVD player. The reason I love Jillian is because she explains things so well and she is very encouraging, especially when its hard moves she gives you steps to work up to them! Let me tell you ... I have fallen in love with this video! This video is a hybrid style of yoga which means it uses power poses with movement to help get your heart rate up to help melt fat while sculpting your body! It makes me feel like my body is becoming longer and leaner instead of getting bulky like lifting weights makes me feel. I am so confident that I am going to try an actual yoga class very soon and I can't wait to post about it! Until then, keep reading for there are many more adventures to come!
